Personally, I like Rihanna. I have always liked her unique sound since she first came on the scene and before she was "A Good Girl Gone Bad". But I think it's unfair to compare Rihanna to Melanie, when Melanie just came on the scene. I like Melanie Fiona's music, but not as much as my girl Rih Rih. "That's the way the game is played, it's best that she just wait her turn."

ReplyDeleteI am SORRY. MELANIE'S VOICE WILL PUT RIHANNA'S TO SHAME ANY DAY!!! There is simply no comparison in terms of talent. Melanie HAS THIS IN THA BAG! Thats like comparing Beyonce to Ashanti. Monica to Cassie... smh. It has nothing to do with record sales, populariy, how long they have been in the game talent wise, my girl Mel is up there with Bey and Chrisette.
ReplyDeleteNow, her vocals arent that bad. She has changed her vocal style in order to appeal other to demographics. For example, Pink was RnB then Rock. Now, she is a household name. Rihanna is better based off her growth as a artist by cowriting on her albums, seeking help after the Brown incident, and her ever growing style. Melanie will get to this point someday where she finds her place in the business, but until then she needs to develop a solid sound then come for Rihanna. So she needs to sit down and take notes. ReplyDeleteWillie, I think I will have to agree with you on this one. Rihanna may be more of a household name, but it isn't for her singing capabilities. It is because she is constantly wrapped in scandal and drama.
ReplyDeleteTalent wise, Melanie Fiona had that in the bag - the girl can sing, she's classy, and she doesn't have to divulge everything that God gave her to remain the center of attention - her talents as an artist does that.
I think that generation X has officially consumed themselves with shit that translates into their definitions of talent - clothes, fashion sense, depiction of imagery in videos, but they lack the understanding that these things hold no real weight against real artist.
Once the drama of the month ends, once the flamboyant antics are over, and we look at the artist and what they can actually do in regards to skill and talent the Mary J.'s, J. Hudson, Alicia Keys, Minnie Rippleton's, and Beyonce's stand strong while artist who skirt by on substandard means perish.
